Mark Bilak brings a diverse skill set and impeccable work ethic to his patent law practice at MBH. Experienced in preparing and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technologies, he has an extensive experience in semiconductor technology, analog and digital circuits, memory systems, microprocessors, computer systems, telecommunication systems, and power transmission and distribution. Mr. Bilak is experienced in all aspects of the patent life cycle, and is a named inventor on fifteen issued U.S. Patents.

Mr. Bilak began his professional career at IBM as a microprocessor development engineer where he successfully led the qualification efforts for the first product ever manufactured using an industry-first copper metallurgy wiring process developed by IBM. Mr. Bilak then spent six years within IBM’s intellectual property organization, where his assignments included cultivating strategic inventions, drafting invention disclosures, reverse engineering competing products, supporting patent and technology licensing efforts, addressing adversely held patents, and drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Mr. Bilak’s engineering background enables him to connect with inventors at a highly technical level and understand subtle nuances of complex inventions which often determine patentability. Mr. Bilak leverages this understanding and his extensive patent licensing experience to garner maximal intellectual property protection for his clients.

Mr. Bilak earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from Alfred University in 1996 and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont in 2000. Mr. Bilak earned his J.D. with a specialization in Intellectual Property Law from Quinnipiac University School of Law, summa cum laude, in 2005. Mr. Bilak graduated first in the evening division program at Quinnipiac, and in the top 2% of his overall law school class.

Mr. Bilak is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark office, and is admitted to practice law in North Carolina and New York. Mr. Bilak maintains active memberships in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Wake Co. and North Carolina Bar Associations.
