Parthiban "Pat" Mathavan focuses his practice on the development, protection and management of high technology patent portfolios for clients with particular emphasis on preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the electrical arts.

Prior to joining the firm, Pat worked in the Intellectual Property/Information Technology group of a 400-laywer firm located in the Northeast US. There, Pat prepared and prosecuted domestic and foreign patent applications in telecommunication, mechanical, chemical, machine tools, medical devices, drug containers, and drug delivery technologies. Prior to that, Pat was employed as a registered patent attorney with IBM, where he prepared and prosecuted patent applications in areas such as microelectronics, semiconductors, computer software, circuitry, integrated circuit chip packaging, electrical testing and mobile electronics.

Earlier in his career, Pat worked as a senior engineer for Eversource Energy (formerly Northeast Utilities), as a facilities engineer for Aramark Corporation, and as a merchant marine officer with an unlimited tonnage license onboard cargo ships on international trade for various ship-owners/operators. Pat leverages his varied work experiences to maximize value for his clients.

Pat earned a B.S. in Marine Transportation from the State University of New York Maritime College. He obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Connecticut State University, and his J.D. from the evening program at Quinnipiac University School of Law with specialization in intellectual property law. While at law school, he served as the Lead Article Editor of the Quinnipiac Law Review.

Pat’s bar admissions include the State of Connecticut and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also a Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in New Hampshire. Pat is fluent in South Asian languages such as Tamil (native), Hindi and Urdu.
