Patrick Hansen loves complex technologies and is passionate about advancing his client’s interests.  His diversity of experience informs his patent law practice to the benefit of those he serves.

Mr. Hansen earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, summa cum laude, from North Carolina State University.  His engineering career allowed him to consult for Tom Clancy’s computer gaming company, develop web application software for IBM, create web applications for a dot-com, deliver media gateways for Nortel Networks and integrate genetic sequencing equipment at Duke’s Center for Human Genetics.  He has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of U.S. and international patent applications covering software, hardware, medical and scientific devices, computer graphics, web technologies, geographic information systems, wireless devices and systems, semiconductors, power systems, microprocessors and memory devices.

Following graduation from Duke Law School in 2007, Mr. Hansen prepared and prosecuted patent applications at a leading patent boutique in Washington, D.C.  He provided litigation support and represented patent owners and third-party requesters in ex parte and inter partes reexaminations involved in licensing negotiations or concurrent district court and USITC proceedings.  Upon returning to North Carolina, he has continued to partner with clients to build strategic patent portfolios, including through invention mining, patentability investigations and new expedited procedures at the USPTO.

Mr. Hansen is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He is admitted to practice law in North Carolina, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
